The Good
I love this show. The animations and character designs are well done. The Designers really did an outstanding job drawing them. It may look outdated today, but I like it. It's cute and awesome looking to my eyes. I don't see many cartoons out there that look like this.
The humor of the show is the best. You gotta love the lines they say in each episode. They are original and can make you laugh a little. Blitz is a good example. He may act all tough, but he screams like a cowardly girl. I like how they used the popular 90s culture in their jokes. My favorite of all the humor is how they use dog terms. Like "Your pilots license?...No My Dog's License" (Quoted from an episode). Stuff like that fits perfectly in this show. It amazes me every time I hear something like that.
The music is pretty good. I like the intro song and credits. The music is well composed and developed. It makes me feel like I am back in the past.
The Bad
As much as I love this show, there are a few flaws. I think the episodes are too short. There are a few flaws in some of the plots that don't make realistic sense. There was one slip in episode 4 "Where Rovers Dare". Hunter gives a Guard a "Low Blow". While it's funny, it really isn't appropriate for this show. It did make me laugh hard when I first saw it in 2007.
I wasn't really a fan of Episode 10, "Reigning Cats and Dogs". The script felt bland and boring, the plot didn't make sense, and there wasn't enough Road Rovers. It's still a decent episode.
I kind of wanted to see a little more enemies other than General Parvo. There were a good amount of nemesis but it was mostly General Parvo's work. Also, there should have been more episodes. 13 is really short and uneven.
While I enjoy finding the "goofs" of this show, it kind of hurts it. It would make people think that the show was thrown together quickly without care.
Character Reviews
Let me start off with Hunter. He is one of my favorite rovers. He is a good leader. His jokes and "slowness" makes me laugh. Although, he tends to "steal the show" mostly, he is good character that anyone can like. On some of the episodes, he seems to not notice Colleen flirting with him. Next is Colleen. When I first saw this show on Cartoon Network, only Hunter was my favorite, but in 2007, I started to like Colleen more. She is cute looking and has some good humor. However, I don't particularly care for her teasing on Blitz. She kind-of overdoes it. But I can definitely see her and Hunter together. On the final episode, she reveals that she loves Hunter dearly.
Next character is Exile. He is definitely humorous. He is good ally of the team. His butchering up the English language is pretty funny. I laughed at some of them. However, he and Blitz tend to fight a lot. He sometimes picks on Blitz even when he is minding own business. On to the next character: Blitz. He is definitely the funniest of all of them. His cowardly acts, like screaming like a girl, makes me laugh everytime. Like I said before, he pretends to be the best, but in the end he comes out as a coward. He kind of tends have an obsession with "tooshie-biting", which can make him repetitive and weird. I do find him being over hated by everyone, especially by Colleen and Exile. He usually gets beat up sometimes for nothing. I am also kind of disappointed how he hardly uses his super powers: super claws and teeth. Those would look interesting in a fight.
Now for my least favorite Characters. First off: Shag. He is definitely at the bottom of my list. He is somewhat useless. He is more cowardly than Blitz. He is hardly in action. He is kind of a like a portable storage for the Rovers. The lack of super powers and talking kind of makes him boring. Next up, is Muzzle. While he is restrained and kept away throughout the series, he definitely kicks butt. The Rovers usually use him as a "last resort", however, in one episode, they get really lazy and let him do all the work. He is more interesting than Shag, but still on the bottom of my character list. Last, General Parvo and The Groomer. While they make good villains, they are somewhat over used and sometimes they feel annoying. Episode 8, Dawn of The Groomer and 10, "Reigning Cats and Dogs" are a good examples. After seeing that episode, they definitely feel the weirdest enemies ever. They still good in the previous episodes though.
My Final Verdict
I give this show a straight 8/10. It's definitely a great series I could watch over and over
again. I still do. I wish there were more episodes. Maybe seeing Hunter and Colleen together, Blitz getting more shine, or seeing more missions. Maybe a movie...yeah, that would be epic. The show did have some flaws so that's why I didn't give it a perfect 10. But I do recommend it to anyone looking for something to watch. It's definitely meant for anyone, even though this was really aimed for kids. I could probably keep liking this even when I am 30 years old! Check it out if you haven't. You won't regret it if you get into it. :)
God Bless!
